SWMO PRSA selects annual Dr. Joe McAdoo Memorial Scholarship recipient

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – The Southwest Missouri Public Relations Society of America (SWMO PRSA) has selected Missouri State University (MSU) student Makayla Strickland, junior, as the recipient of its Dr. Joe McAdoo Memorial Scholarship. The $1,100 award will be spread evenly over the fall 2023/spring 2024 academic semesters.

The SWMO PRSA chapter established the scholarship in memory of Joe McAdoo, a founder and past president of the club, formerly known as the Public Relations Association of Springfield. McAdoo also served as chair of Drury University’s Department of Communication and was committed to fostering educational opportunities upholding the distinction and integrity of the public relations profession.

The scholarship is awarded annually to one student from a local southwest Missouri-based college or university who is pursuing a degree in the public relations field. A scholarship committee reviews applications and selects the recipient.

“The Dr. Joe McAdoo Memorial Scholarship will benefit me financially by helping me finish my education at Missouri State,” said Strickland. “I love the flexibility and knowledge that intercultural communications can provide to all people.”

Strickland, a native of Buffalo, Missouri, is double majoring in Broadcast Journalism and Intercultural Communications. She currently serves as sports editor for The Standard, MSU’s student newspaper, and as a part-time associate news producer at KOLR-10. She plans to pursue a full-time career in local tv news following graduation.
